Is it time for you to buy a new, or perhaps your first, yoga mat? There are several items you may want to consider when buying a new yoga mat and here are a couple.

Thickness

If you look around you’ll see some yogis use very thin yoga mats and some choose thicker, more padded ones. This is a matter of preference, but as a rule, the thinner the mat, the more connected you are to the floor and the better balance you’ll have. However, get a mat that is too thin, and it may not provide enough padding for you to be comfortable. Check out the different options and see which is right for you.

Material

When choosing a yoga mat material, there are several aspects to consider.

  • Take note of how sticky the mat is.
  • Is the material eco-friendly.
  • Do you like the texture

Again, check out the different options and find the one you like best.

Price

The material, thickness, texture, design and manufacturer are all factors in determining the price of a yoga mat. As with anything else, is the most expensive yoga mat necessarily the best one for you? Maybe, maybe not. We each need something different from our mat and it’s important that you are happy with your choice. Remember, if you take care of your mat you should be able to use it for a long time, so make sure you take the time to selection one you’ll be happy with moving forward.
